AI Mock Interview for Infosys: Practise the Technical and HR Rounds for System Engineer, DSE and Specialist Programmer

AI mock interview for Infosys: technical and HR rounds for System Engineer, DSE and Specialist Programmer mapped to MockMate Practice, and a 7-day plan.

Updated 7 min read

Infosys hires freshers through more routes than any other Indian IT company: on-campus drives, off-campus tests, the InfyTQ certification, and HackWithInfy. The routes differ; the interviews at the end do not, much. A System Engineer candidate faces a technical conversation on fundamentals and a short HR round. A Specialist Programmer candidate faces a harder technical round on data structures and their coding-test solutions, then the same HR round. An AI mock interview for Infosys is useful when it targets the round you will actually sit, at the level of the role you applied for.

Everything about the Infosys process below is as of September 2026 and drawn from the Infosys careers page and placement-prep sources; drives differ, so read the invitation you received.

Who this is for

  • Freshers applying for System Engineer (SE) through on-campus drives, the off-campus test or InfyTQ.
  • Candidates for Digital Specialist Engineer (DSE), Specialist Programmer (SP) and Power Programmer roles, which come with a harder coding test and a deeper technical interview.
  • Students who cleared the InfyTQ certification and have a direct interview call.
  • Anyone who has an Infosys interview date and one week.

For the written question bank, see Infosys interview questions for freshers and the Infosys managerial round.

The Infosys process, as of September 2026

  1. Routes: on-campus hiring through the placement cell; off-campus drives through the Infosys careers portal; InfyTQ (register, complete courses, clear the certification exam for direct shortlisting); HackWithInfy for Specialist and Power Programmer roles.
  2. Roles: System Engineer for application development, testing and maintenance; DSE for specialised areas such as cloud, data and AI; Specialist Programmer for full-stack and DevOps-heavy work; Power Programmer as the top tier. Placement sites report DSE trainee offers around ₹6.25 LPA plus a joining bonus and Specialist Programmer offers from about ₹10 LPA upwards for off-campus drives; System Engineer offers are candidate-reported in the ₹3.6 to 4.5 LPA range. Infosys does not publish these on its careers page; treat them as indicative.
  3. Selection: an online assessment (aptitude for SE; longer programming assessments for SP and DSE, reported at around three hours for off-campus drives), then a technical interview of about 30 to 45 minutes and an HR conversation of 15 to 20 minutes, often merged into one techno-behavioural interview.
  4. After the offer: most freshers train at the Mysuru campus before project allocation, so relocation is asked in nearly every HR conversation. A service agreement has historically applied to freshers; reports for 2026 differ, so read the offer letter.

The online assessments and the InfyTQ exam are proctored; see proctoring. Practice is for the interviews.

Attach the Infosys job description for your role and your resume to every session. The persona then asks about the specific things Infosys asks: training in Mysuru, pan-India posting, and your project.

What each round actually asks

Technical interview

  1. "Explain your final-year project." Strong answer: problem, your part, technology choices with reasons, one failure and fix, under two minutes.
  2. "What is the difference between method overloading and overriding?" (or the Python or C equivalent). Strong answer: the rule and an example from your own code.
  3. "Write a program to check whether a number is prime" (SE) or "reverse a linked list in place and give the complexity" (SP). Strong answer: approach first, clean code, an edge-case test, and the Big-O.
  4. "What is the difference between DELETE, TRUNCATE and DROP? Write a query with a GROUP BY." Strong answer: one line each, a correct query, what the result contains.
  5. "Walk me through your assessment solution and how you would improve it" (SP, DSE). Strong answer: what you did, where it was slow, the better approach.

Techno-behavioural conversation

  1. "Your module is failing during client testing the night before delivery. What do you do?" Strong answer: reproduce, isolate, communicate impact upward, propose a fix or a rollback. See managerial round.
  2. "Tell me about a time you worked in a team where someone was not contributing." Strong answer: a STAR story with your specific action and the result.

HR conversation

  1. "Why Infosys?" Strong answer: one specific thing (a training programme, a client domain, a product) tied to what you want to learn.
  2. "Are you willing to relocate for training at Mysuru and posting anywhere in India?" Strong answer: a clear yes decided before the day.
  3. "Are you planning higher studies? Are you aware of the service agreement?" Strong answer: honest, consistent, and showing you have read the terms; see service agreement.

How a MockMate Practice session runs for Infosys

Practice runs in the browser. Attach your resume and the Infosys job description for your role, set seniority to entry level and the focus for each session. The questions are adaptive: a project explanation that names the stack but not your role gets "what did you build personally?"; a correct GROUP BY gets "what happens with nulls?". Technical sessions include a code editor. Each free start runs up to ten minutes, and eligible accounts get three free starts, tracked server-side. Each session ends with a report.

What the report tells you

  • Question-level answers with coaching: "prime-number program had no check for 1", "why Infosys answer was generic".
  • Response timing: how long before you started each answer and how long you spoke.
  • Coaching evidence behind each note.
  • Recurring weaknesses across the session, for example "does not test code" or "hedges on relocation".
  • A recommended next practice: which round to run again.

Honest limits

  • Practice is a browser product; Live is Windows-only. The mock interview works in any modern browser. MockMate's Live assistance companion runs only on Windows 10 and 11; there is no Mac, iOS or Android app.
  • Live is for permitted settings only. Use Live assistance only where the organisation, interviewer or applicable rules permit assistance and disclosure; use Practice when permission is unclear. Infosys assessments are proctored and Infosys interviews do not permit assistance; for Infosys, Practice is the only appropriate mode, and MockMate's policies say it does not authorise cheating in exams or unauthorised interview use.
  • The persona is not an Infosys panel. It does not know this drive's cut-offs or a specific interviewer's style. Placement seniors and recent joiners do.
  • Process facts change by drive. Routes, roles, packages and service-agreement terms above are as of September 2026 and partly candidate-reported; the invitation and offer letter win.
  • Three free starts, ten minutes each. After that, credits apply (as of September 2026: Starter ₹2,000 for 2 credits, Growth ₹5,000 for 5, Pro ₹10,000 for 12; one credit is about sixty minutes). See pricing.

If you are also sitting for TCS, the TCS mock interview page maps that company's TR, MR and HR rounds the same way.

Frequently asked questions

Can MockMate help with the Infosys online assessment or InfyTQ exam?

No. Those are proctored tests, and MockMate's policies do not authorise use in exams. Practice prepares you for the technical and HR interviews that follow them.

Is the Infosys interview one round or two?

Usually a technical interview of about 30 to 45 minutes and an HR conversation of 15 to 20 minutes, and many drives merge them into one techno-behavioural interview. Prepare both in any case.

How is a Specialist Programmer interview different from a System Engineer one?

System Engineer interviews stay on fundamentals: one language, OOP, SQL, a simple program and your project. Specialist Programmer and Power Programmer interviews go into data structures and algorithms and a discussion of your coding-test solutions.

Does the mock interview ask about Mysuru training and relocation?

Yes, in the HR-focused round. With the Infosys job description attached, the persona asks about training location, pan-India posting, the service agreement and higher studies, and follows up on hesitation.

How many free Infosys mock interviews do I get?

Eligible accounts get three free Practice starts, each capped at ten minutes, tracked server-side: one technical, one techno-behavioural, one HR. After that, credits apply.
