AI Mock Interview for TCS: Practise the TR, MR and HR Rounds That Follow the NQT

AI mock interview for TCS: how the TR, MR and HR rounds after the NQT map to MockMate Practice modes, what each round asks, a 7-day plan, as of September 2026.

Updated 7 min read

TCS hires more freshers than any other company in India, and its process is unusually well defined: one national test, then three interview rounds with three different purposes. Candidates spend months on the test and days on the interviews, which is backwards, because the test has a published pattern and the interviews are where the rejections happen. An AI mock interview for TCS is useful only if it maps to those three rounds. This page does that mapping.

Everything about the TCS process below is as of September 2026 and drawn from the TCS careers page and placement-prep sources; the process changes by cycle, so confirm on the live page before your drive.

Who this is for

  • 2024, 2025 and 2026 batch graduates who have registered for the TCS All India NQT Hiring cycle and want to prepare for the interviews before the result.
  • Candidates already shortlisted for Ninja, Digital or Prime interviews with a date in hand.
  • Students in colleges where TCS runs on-campus drives with the same TR, MR and HR structure.

For the written question bank, see TCS interview questions, TCS Ninja and the TCS managerial round.

The TCS process, as of September 2026

  1. Eligibility: a minimum of 60 percent aggregate or equivalent CGPA in Class 10, Class 12, diploma (if applicable), graduation and post-graduation, with no pending backlog at the time of selection; the 2024, 2025 and 2026 batches with 0 to 2 years of experience are listed for the current cycle.
  2. The NQT: one integrated test of about 190 minutes and 83 questions. Foundation (Part A, 75 minutes): 20 numerical, 25 verbal and 20 reasoning questions. Advanced (Part B, 115 minutes): 15 advanced quant and reasoning questions and 3 coding problems in 90 minutes. No negative marking reported. The Foundation score decides Ninja eligibility; Digital and Prime need the Advanced score too.
  3. Interviews: a technical round (TR), a managerial round (MR) and an HR round, frequently on the same day and sometimes as one panel.
  4. Offer: Ninja, Digital or Prime, with a reported one-year service agreement of around ₹50,000 for freshers; read the offer letter rather than relying on reports.

The NQT is a proctored test and out of scope for any assistance tool; see proctoring. Everything after it is what Practice is for.

Mapping TCS rounds to MockMate Practice modes

TCS roundWho takes itWhat it testsMockMate Practice setup
TR (technical)An engineer or team leadOne language, OOP, SQL, data structures, OS basics, your project; a coding problem for Digital and PrimeTechnical round with the code editor; focus "fundamentals and project" (Ninja) or "DSA and coding" (Digital, Prime)
MR (managerial)A delivery or project managerOwnership, pressure, flexibility, consistency with your TR answers, scenario questionsHR-style round with focus "managerial and behavioral"; pick the persona that interrupts
HRAn HR executiveSelf-introduction, relocation, shifts, service agreement, higher studies, documentsHR round with focus "commitment questions and self-introduction"

Attach the TCS job description from the NQT page or your college notice, plus your resume, to each session. The persona then asks about the actual things TCS asks about: pan-India posting, the service agreement, and your final-year project.

What each round actually asks

TR round

  1. "Explain your final-year project." Strong answer: problem, your part, technology choices with reasons, one failure and fix, under two minutes.
  2. "What is the difference between an abstract class and an interface?" (or the Python or C equivalent). Strong answer: the rule, then when you would use each, from your own code.
  3. "Write a program to count vowels in a string" or, for Digital and Prime, "walk me through your NQT coding solution and improve it." Strong answer: approach first, clean code, a test with an edge case, and the complexity.
  4. "What is normalisation? Write a join across two tables." Strong answer: 1NF to 3NF in one line each, a correct join, and what the result contains.

MR round

  1. "Your client changes the requirement two days before delivery. What do you do?" Strong answer: confirm in writing, estimate impact, tell your lead what can and cannot be done, propose a phased delivery. See managerial round.
  2. "You are trained in Java and the project needs a different stack. Are you okay?" Strong answer: a real yes with one example of learning something new fast.
  3. "Tell me about a time a teammate did not deliver." Strong answer: a STAR story with what you did and the result.

HR round

  1. "Are you willing to relocate anywhere in India and work in shifts?" Strong answer: a clear yes decided before the day.
  2. "Are you aware of the service agreement?" Strong answer: yes, with the terms you have read; see service agreement.
  3. "Are you planning higher studies, and where do you see yourself in five years?" Strong answer: honest and consistent with each other.

How a MockMate Practice session runs for TCS

Practice runs in the browser. Attach your resume and the TCS job description, set seniority to entry level, and run three sessions with different focus areas, one per round. The questions are adaptive: a project explanation that skips your own role gets "what did you build personally?"; a yes to relocation gets a specific city and shift. The technical session includes a code editor. Each free start runs up to ten minutes, which matches the length of a real TCS round; eligible accounts get three free starts, tracked server-side. Each session ends with a report.

What the report tells you

  • Question-level answers with coaching, for example "join written correctly but result set not described" or "managerial scenario ended at 'inform my manager'".
  • Response timing: how long before you started each answer. TCS panels move fast; a thirty-second pause before the project explanation is the most common fresher pattern.
  • Coaching evidence behind each note.
  • Recurring weaknesses across the session, for example "hedges on commitment questions".
  • A recommended next practice: which of the three rounds to run again.

A 7-day prep plan (after the NQT, before the interview)

1Practice session 1: technical focus, TCS JD, resumeReport: technical weaknesses
2Project scripts (one, three, ten minutes) and one language: twenty programs by handScripts and programs
3SQL and DBMS on a real table; OS and networking basics; for Digital and Prime, re-solve your NQT coding problems and improve themTen queries, one page of notes
4Practice session 2: managerial focus; then write six STAR storiesReport and stories
5Decisions: relocation, shifts, service agreement, higher studies; company research: what TCS does, one recent itemDecided answers
6Practice session 3: HR focusReport compared across all three

Honest limits

  • Practice is a browser product; Live is Windows-only. The mock interview works in any modern browser. MockMate's Live assistance companion runs only on Windows 10 and 11; there is no Mac, iOS or Android app.
  • Live is for permitted settings only. Use Live assistance only where the organisation, interviewer or applicable rules permit assistance and disclosure; use Practice when permission is unclear. The TCS NQT is proctored and TCS interviews do not permit assistance; for TCS, Practice is the only appropriate mode, and MockMate's policies say it does not authorise cheating in exams or unauthorised interview use.
  • The persona is not a TCS panel. It does not know this cycle's cut-offs or a given manager's style. Placement seniors do; ask them.
  • Process facts change by cycle. Batch eligibility, test pattern and service-agreement terms above are as of September 2026; the live TCS page wins.
  • Three free starts, ten minutes each. After that, credits apply (as of September 2026: Starter ₹2,000 for 2 credits, Growth ₹5,000 for 5, Pro ₹10,000 for 12; one credit is about sixty minutes). See pricing.

If you are also sitting for Infosys, the Infosys mock interview page maps that company's rounds the same way.

Frequently asked questions

Can MockMate help me with the TCS NQT itself?

No. The NQT is a proctored test, and MockMate's policies do not authorise use in exams. MockMate Practice prepares you for the interviews that follow the NQT: the technical, managerial and HR rounds.

Are the TCS interview rounds on the same day?

Often, yes. Many candidates report TR, MR and HR on one day, sometimes as a single panel that moves through all three. Prepare all three before the first call.

What is the difference between a Ninja and a Digital interview?

Ninja interviews usually cover fundamentals (one language, OOP, SQL, your project) plus HR. Digital and Prime shortlists face a deeper technical round, often with a coding problem or a walk-through of the NQT Advanced Coding solutions.

Does the mock interview ask about the TCS service agreement and relocation?

Yes, in the HR-focused round. With the TCS job description attached, the persona asks about relocation anywhere in India, shifts, the service agreement and higher studies, and follows up on hesitation.

How many free TCS mock interviews do I get?

Eligible accounts get three free Practice starts, each capped at ten minutes, tracked server-side: enough for one technical, one managerial and one HR rehearsal. After that, credits apply.
